Are you prepared to buy a home with your partner? There is a lot to think about before buying with someone else. Whether it's a friend or someone you're in a relationship with, buying a home can be a great investment... as long as you're both on the same page from the start.

Some discussion points:

Will the house be sold if either partner leaves the relationship - who will get a larger portion of the sale funds, will it depend on who put more into the down payment or renovations?

  1. Will you go ahead with a renovation if there is no consensus - will the partner who pays for renovation get a larger share of the sale funds later on?
  2. If one partner chooses to stay in the home and the other leaves, what will the buy-out policy look like?
  3. Will the bills be split down the middle or does one partner use a larger share of electricity, cable, Internet or the telephone?
  4. Will the house be listed under both of your names - in that case both of you need to sign off on a sale.
