Staging Tips That Add Value To Your Home

Buyers can sense right off the bat whether or not your home is somewhere they could see themselves living. And it's not just the bare bones of the home that can make or break the deal, visual flow and décor also play an important role in eliciting that "I need to live here!" feeling.

Home staging is about making the most of what you have, minimizing existing flaws, and making your home memorable. From room layout to lighting, I have seen the effects of staging first hand - I recently sold a home at over $100,000 above the asking price by implementing a few key staging techniques.

Here are my top 5 home staging tips:

  • Add a fresh coat of neutral paint for a clean, new feeling inside or outside
  • Remove personal or religious artwork from your walls so as not to alienate any buyers
  • Bake cookies or pick a mild air freshener to give your property a homey feeling
  • Turn on your lights even if it's daytime to make your home appear light and bright
  • Freshen your landscaping if you live in a house or clear the doorway if you live in a condo
